We close in 10 days!I'm struggling a bit with the idea that it has to be PERFECT the minute we walk in the door.<br />
<br />
So here are my recent purchases. My wish list will have to follow later.<br />
<br />
I'm most excited about this...a TOBACCO BASKET that I bought for $40 at an antiques store in Abingdon, VA. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQg8JPjaMDQN3FaebLk7oDmTWWmlfLET71NMedfWTeKMxdYfSvBCxINYyuJSd9O1UzFLPRNkPripAAOT73Xkp1uhOhioZWOv5n5Hz08oPjoHReHJ6BDEat22_UoLCs1GT1fAFfxeai4Lc/s1600/toba.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQg8JPjaMDQN3FaebLk7oDmTWWmlfLET71NMedfWTeKMxdYfSvBCxINYyuJSd9O1UzFLPRNkPripAAOT73Xkp1uhOhioZWOv5n5Hz08oPjoHReHJ6BDEat22_UoLCs1GT1fAFfxeai4Lc/s320/toba.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>This is a similar photo. Mine is in worn condition, but a little better than this. The basket is HUGE. Maybe 3'x3' or larger. Mine says "Prewitt Bros" but I don't know anything about the company...yet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixLS0OCy9s96YJ3s5PBFK8hqPyu5Qz6eHasomxwVzsUvhObuh70-CuiUWhBcqD7ClpnM9PMJlBqTuVIq9M1sf6GEl24KIJwN72e76uesSWjBETL5BakYlAhklRRLYpU71NZr1BOS0MmxU/s1600/asoftplace.net.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixLS0OCy9s96YJ3s5PBFK8hqPyu5Qz6eHasomxwVzsUvhObuh70-CuiUWhBcqD7ClpnM9PMJlBqTuVIq9M1sf6GEl24KIJwN72e76uesSWjBETL5BakYlAhklRRLYpU71NZr1BOS0MmxU/s320/asoftplace.net.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div align="center"><a href="http://asoftplace.net/"><span style="font-size: xx-small;">asoftplace.net</span></a></div>I plan to hang ours over the fireplace. Because John said it was too "dirty" for the dining room!<br />
<br />
I also ordered 2 of these sconces from Restoration Hardware. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh85JIhkls1icSP3kBQ1ffV_hSYLBiXBBHvC9FkMfGYxhyIYFjcO_sytUCLks4ZsWGCLq_4x6pCbtlZxX6NPQ4IBRQZ4KFk7Ds0b7OTpGOoPnUZh88Kjd_AnYxjdFK1L4nQIcwXkInFH6g/s1600/lugarno.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="311" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh85JIhkls1icSP3kBQ1ffV_hSYLBiXBBHvC9FkMfGYxhyIYFjcO_sytUCLks4ZsWGCLq_4x6pCbtlZxX6NPQ4IBRQZ4KFk7Ds0b7OTpGOoPnUZh88Kjd_AnYxjdFK1L4nQIcwXkInFH6g/s320/lugarno.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Lugarno double sconces. These will replace the builder-grade lights in the master bath, that don't fit the style of the bathroom. They were on sale (yay) but don't come with the shades (boo). So I'll be searching for some inexpensive white shades.<br />
<br />
I also wanted to get these matching knobs and pulls, but I couldn't justify the price.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmvCUNj2ViAE8k48whUXTAK5CopnXJxcn9NGQAc67bw4dKJsCFtsmJJk9XB0cAtKk0zUX8wd9lgKMHTuQCQXF1St3YTZ98HF8KMOZUdekL3_qhcQrW2ab81bJe8-rP6ofk8L9QDL7OClA/s1600/lugarno+pull.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="194" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmvCUNj2ViAE8k48whUXTAK5CopnXJxcn9NGQAc67bw4dKJsCFtsmJJk9XB0cAtKk0zUX8wd9lgKMHTuQCQXF1St3YTZ98HF8KMOZUdekL3_qhcQrW2ab81bJe8-rP6ofk8L9QDL7OClA/s200/lugarno+pull.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggT8UI5nF0A9WEtOFKS9YmNUzQIcgnoWLpcztJijf-1LYXGZRtWiieCPjNsrH6uHBwH7Ka9YsYrATLdkTtqOi2QqfgyGyIYbDhu_6crqL0xdP28hVtfE_Qo5g587bAwodJrybq6pcdku0/s1600/lugarno+knob.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="195" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggT8UI5nF0A9WEtOFKS9YmNUzQIcgnoWLpcztJijf-1LYXGZRtWiieCPjNsrH6uHBwH7Ka9YsYrATLdkTtqOi2QqfgyGyIYbDhu_6crqL0xdP28hVtfE_Qo5g587bAwodJrybq6pcdku0/s200/lugarno+knob.jpg" width="200" /></a></div> <br />
I finally decided on a lantern for the kitchen as well. Thomasville Crestwood 3-light lantern in Antique Bronze. We thought the 4-light would be too large. I was able to order it from Home Depot, so if it arrives and isn't perfect, I can always return it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7S76Bfkf0omhE6SIAICyp-3E9CgH7vzOYAdBRXukB7WbMNfhwBvlXd-sI95AKsYMY8x5NxtP8xmu3VL2Y9UMtRSXTQ6rSrOfEtRkj1676dbNlKEaWJP3HiRmPVy6vx_5NvPza4dcNCAE/s1600/thomasville+crestwood.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7S76Bfkf0omhE6SIAICyp-3E9CgH7vzOYAdBRXukB7WbMNfhwBvlXd-sI95AKsYMY8x5NxtP8xmu3VL2Y9UMtRSXTQ6rSrOfEtRkj1676dbNlKEaWJP3HiRmPVy6vx_5NvPza4dcNCAE/s320/thomasville+crestwood.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
On our trip to Tennessee, I found 10 yards of Sunbrella fabric to recover 2 chairs for our living room.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSBYQI4IUdBPeILOV8Medc_n-hkH3ikix5c5aRMCTPr1vOMoS1VodrRXPKgyzFtMruJqP1RXB6wuBWg-kWFO-VbIzyvTTdrGVZNO0oFf05-CvpT3u9YybQgGweyqNUy9XIEoZqmMZ-nsg/s1600/sunbrell.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSBYQI4IUdBPeILOV8Medc_n-hkH3ikix5c5aRMCTPr1vOMoS1VodrRXPKgyzFtMruJqP1RXB6wuBWg-kWFO-VbIzyvTTdrGVZNO0oFf05-CvpT3u9YybQgGweyqNUy9XIEoZqmMZ-nsg/s1600/sunbrell.jpg" /></a></div>I figure, if you want off-white chairs in a home with a 5 and 6 year old, you need to use a durable fabric. This is an outdoor fabric, but is smoother and softer to the touch than most outdoor fabrics. I'll get on that project soon!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2tDC1bXyZgtjE539pp_ZiATBTi85CHj1Uv7tQoa3h2K7yj6_Ozk7cESCW0ajrCV_F2yKQeL4QQT6ZrY8bMnsY-EOTZPZyeAflOlH4xn7JeqLn8GYjILcFpDl5RI6shN5REn3iH0lYh00/s1600/table.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2tDC1bXyZgtjE539pp_ZiATBTi85CHj1Uv7tQoa3h2K7yj6_Ozk7cESCW0ajrCV_F2yKQeL4QQT6ZrY8bMnsY-EOTZPZyeAflOlH4xn7JeqLn8GYjILcFpDl5RI6shN5REn3iH0lYh00/s1600/table.jpg" /></a></div>On the same Tennessee trip, John's parents gave us a patio table and 2 chairs that they weren't using. So we picked up 2 more bistro chairs from our local Lowes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDgmWL3-y8EDBo44OlhGVga_3hq8tYo9Qn_fub_L5_TPID4px-QDKgXbOkDzcZqAus_VMB6l40zF8Mz6g4Oh92XlCL9lQ9Mb2kLAkCoBreHI0icSPd9RivqHNNET0tf1EPHV1ZBFKWO-Q/s1600/t+chair.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDgmWL3-y8EDBo44OlhGVga_3hq8tYo9Qn_fub_L5_TPID4px-QDKgXbOkDzcZqAus_VMB6l40zF8Mz6g4Oh92XlCL9lQ9Mb2kLAkCoBreHI0icSPd9RivqHNNET0tf1EPHV1ZBFKWO-Q/s1600/t+chair.jpg" /></a></div>I decided on a paint color for the entry, all the bathrooms and Caroline's room. Pittsburgh Paints Toasted Almond. But I call it "greige". I really hope the walls don't look purple like it looks on my computer monitor.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnKCAc9dQsD5XYdr5c4LmRAooO86O-GqA5bwTgkwddyi9Yv580wXyHo0IGQVS6VVRx9bUkAEBLTYpWGrrckA7bLbGvHugZ9rraclVHXGlc3Teb-Jr9lsNbmXVoX3V-V2WWrNjUfyzkbsY/s1600/pittsburgh+paint+toasted+almond.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnKCAc9dQsD5XYdr5c4LmRAooO86O-GqA5bwTgkwddyi9Yv580wXyHo0IGQVS6VVRx9bUkAEBLTYpWGrrckA7bLbGvHugZ9rraclVHXGlc3Teb-Jr9lsNbmXVoX3V-V2WWrNjUfyzkbsY/s320/pittsburgh+paint+toasted+almond.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My recent Craigslist purchases include 2 awesome finds:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">An extra large, solid wood, entertainment center armoire. The brand is Heckman, but it looks a lot like this Pottery Barn one. It will hold the living room television.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglVH-dD4itA5Y4y8Kcv7I2i6wh4NM7DC2CP6Kw0xorwr-w4ataZHJTIBV63GMOlMah9OR5I1o0slTftOv9m4GRXnGbm3LWFuLKQWzgHsjnGNZSIiDAqbjtsc0c5Js6jfzA56b0uEuU-Js/s1600/armoire.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="287" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglVH-dD4itA5Y4y8Kcv7I2i6wh4NM7DC2CP6Kw0xorwr-w4ataZHJTIBV63GMOlMah9OR5I1o0slTftOv9m4GRXnGbm3LWFuLKQWzgHsjnGNZSIiDAqbjtsc0c5Js6jfzA56b0uEuU-Js/s320/armoire.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> And this may have been the best bargain yet! A Jasper secretary on Craistlist for $160! It will sit in the corner of the living room and be my desk for paying bills, etc...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbfynSJggl-tPieFdSgsSfD78FmqpGj8qaGFATBQO4qHlbRGvgkAttf18DueZtUlHkG-xfzYELha_V7pCfYroMLUUQupAeWJIi7kpqsQ6JjIDv3IMO-4oPrnkzIeSkSG_ES3bEhotKrTY/s1600/secretary.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbfynSJggl-tPieFdSgsSfD78FmqpGj8qaGFATBQO4qHlbRGvgkAttf18DueZtUlHkG-xfzYELha_V7pCfYroMLUUQupAeWJIi7kpqsQ6JjIDv3IMO-4oPrnkzIeSkSG_ES3bEhotKrTY/s320/secretary.jpg" width="175" /></a></div><div style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> We've picked out a king size bed for our master from a local furniture store. Great price, and a great look alike to several popular stores. A consolation prize since I couldn't get John on board with an upholstered headboard (a dust trap). </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2D4p6KUw5JdJ7zp7S_zuW8auZ2gqFnkGC23C4n1vq2xo-gfkTQQLuczOkTEplonnVebqNeSkXkEbUCT-cF-Kj1isISEivtWIn39JYVcQqtM8EGM-SWmP-yvUSq9ragIik8vb7_3Hv1U8/s1600/king+bed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2D4p6KUw5JdJ7zp7S_zuW8auZ2gqFnkGC23C4n1vq2xo-gfkTQQLuczOkTEplonnVebqNeSkXkEbUCT-cF-Kj1isISEivtWIn39JYVcQqtM8EGM-SWmP-yvUSq9ragIik8vb7_3Hv1U8/s320/king+bed.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">John's study has made lots of progress. Mostly from Ikea. It would be so tedious to show you piece by piece. You'll just have to see it in place.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">But Caroline's chandelier from Ikea will be worth a little peek, to finish this out. She's SUPER excited about a little bling in her room.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYqDZrR8u-m2UmkTjuSrxPmdo2OjVScySTWR6K1R4geCg3M8tjojSJn9FQosOHmpaiqxcMOWOiIBSIqCBSPeAh5Vbx6PiaNbT-gmlnJuqrlldnJ5A_tPu5vxO_r0Z8FyXrDvLczCOJbho/s1600/kristaller-chandelier--armed__59280_PE165082_S4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYqDZrR8u-m2UmkTjuSrxPmdo2OjVScySTWR6K1R4geCg3M8tjojSJn9FQosOHmpaiqxcMOWOiIBSIqCBSPeAh5Vbx6PiaNbT-gmlnJuqrlldnJ5A_tPu5vxO_r0Z8FyXrDvLczCOJbho/s320/kristaller-chandelier--armed__59280_PE165082_S4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'll keep shopping, organizing and packing. Did I say 10 more days?!?</div>Michelle Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09612026771635370540noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292287499918562005.post-77961937323020666922011-08-02T18:38:00.000-06:002011-08-02T18:38:05.917-06:00marker on the wallI've been planning on stenciling a design on the walls of our new half bath.<br />
It's a pretty small room, but the joke may end up being on me, since the stencil will have to work around a doorway, window, toilet, pedastal sink, light fixture, mirror, and switches/outlets. hmmm...rethinking...<br />
<br />
Here's my hall bath inspiration photo again. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguU7kISFvT1C1Q6P_rLFA8yMxKAQZ4aPuy80nqM0_E5TWK1ivkfu-fXOTrNcLEYEQllFsRP9cjtqnHYHm-V2jVlGEeXuzIQrkIRgenBVI_TKug2oFiKPbVLWyaAve1pW_OKwaM3_PxCw4/s1600/bathroom2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguU7kISFvT1C1Q6P_rLFA8yMxKAQZ4aPuy80nqM0_E5TWK1ivkfu-fXOTrNcLEYEQllFsRP9cjtqnHYHm-V2jVlGEeXuzIQrkIRgenBVI_TKug2oFiKPbVLWyaAve1pW_OKwaM3_PxCw4/s320/bathroom2.jpg" width="304" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">via <a href="http://www.decorpad.com/photo.htm?photoId=83779&index=0&currentPage=0&searchQuery=Thomas O'Brien Vendome Triple Sconce&searchType=photos">decorpad.</a> photo by Tria Giovan.</div><br />
Our bath will be painted a base coat of a taupe-y gray. The color swatch I've been carrying around is from Wal-Mart. Dutch Boy/Better Homes in the color Creamy Pebbles. No photo. I still have a few weeks to decide. Anyone know the perfect taupey-gray color?<br />
<br />
But then what? Do I buy a stencil, make one? What pattern? Geometric? Intricate? <br />
Here are some of the photos floating around my desktop:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6qXdIJ38OW7PX546YH_I2g-ys9mw9yMAv1WX4jtNvT9eY9Nh1ud_Pqe5fk9xSZnwsevOC4A5h3dbo_1ONsfUBHWqjZTkURcip_L0AF2r69GZ9VgaDDr-Wrk0gN9JVQtRDDCY43R58XX0/s1600/stencil+patterns.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6qXdIJ38OW7PX546YH_I2g-ys9mw9yMAv1WX4jtNvT9eY9Nh1ud_Pqe5fk9xSZnwsevOC4A5h3dbo_1ONsfUBHWqjZTkURcip_L0AF2r69GZ9VgaDDr-Wrk0gN9JVQtRDDCY43R58XX0/s400/stencil+patterns.jpg" width="400" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4WNuImoVdMYOjOJnxA3ZD-T1d94DK-_d1BjiEe_zycIUdOHAZbEfSBB_KMk-WbsR_Vo9qpql3Ei6m2sgGhyphenhyphenuopc8KKsA-Rz9TqmlRQzulovWKSXy7BjZiorY42_uRZ01PS1wRaMjJ_s4/s1600/ballard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4WNuImoVdMYOjOJnxA3ZD-T1d94DK-_d1BjiEe_zycIUdOHAZbEfSBB_KMk-WbsR_Vo9qpql3Ei6m2sgGhyphenhyphenuopc8KKsA-Rz9TqmlRQzulovWKSXy7BjZiorY42_uRZ01PS1wRaMjJ_s4/s1600/ballard.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">(from <a href="http://www.centsationalgirl.com/">centsational girl</a>, <a href="http://jonesdesigncompany.com/decorate/painted-wallpaper-a-tutorial/">jones design company</a>, <a href="http://www.grinteriordesign.com/interface.html">Graciela Rutkowski Interiors</a>, <a href="http://houseandhome.com/">houseandhome.com</a>, and the rest are from pinterest)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

And got it for a steal!<br />
<br />
Here's the high end version. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5X8IPoG45lf7vIA-4aFRSeu2aj3R-8yz_swbC64FfUZ_QaGR4L3xDrix6gWq0QRasjM2OXwBWdjuislpsqgFHlTY6aI2RkLNf8QqTqwn_hdBaLvsSODrAWZj10Kgetpjel9UPi4bn-oc/s1600/Embarcadero.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5X8IPoG45lf7vIA-4aFRSeu2aj3R-8yz_swbC64FfUZ_QaGR4L3xDrix6gWq0QRasjM2OXwBWdjuislpsqgFHlTY6aI2RkLNf8QqTqwn_hdBaLvsSODrAWZj10Kgetpjel9UPi4bn-oc/s1600/Embarcadero.jpg" /></a></div><br />
You can find it on <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Forecast-Embarcadero-Satin-Nickel-Chandelier/dp/B000W9AR84">Amazon</a> for $400 (and even more on other sites!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqiBFkQ39v1FQ4CNPaz6wRcaWV-3GWnOZ1yzDOkCwd0Andu1CUUH9tNy1gOkboALap7_orofVK-V_hK6vPXLQsemTl48MQORqGLbqVUR0ytHK2tnom1KlrmKmJnjb63iQx46s7jpTU5ZY/s1600/overstock+chrome-plated+wood+accent+4+shade.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqiBFkQ39v1FQ4CNPaz6wRcaWV-3GWnOZ1yzDOkCwd0Andu1CUUH9tNy1gOkboALap7_orofVK-V_hK6vPXLQsemTl48MQORqGLbqVUR0ytHK2tnom1KlrmKmJnjb63iQx46s7jpTU5ZY/s1600/overstock+chrome-plated+wood+accent+4+shade.jpg" /></a></div>I bought<a href="http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Chrome-plated-Wood-Accent-4-shade-Chandelier/4070943/product.html"> this one</a> from overstock.com. With shipping it wasn't even 100 bucks! In real life, the overstock light looks more like the expensive one. I like to think it may even BE the expensive one, that was overstocked because no one in their right mind would pay $400 for a chandelier (although I know they do, and I might!)<br />
<br />
And John approved. <br />
We'll here's my version. It's not quite a Dream House post, but rather how I most desire my current (under construction) house to look. I've limited myself to one photo per room, just for the challenge!<br />
<br />
Through the front door, you'll find this entry. Panelling, stair treads, wall color...perfection.<br />

But seeing as they just use ours, maybe I can keep putting that off for a bit longer.<br />
<br />
And, obviously, I desire NO color in this house. Wonder how that will turn out?<br />
<br />
After we move in, and slowly make some changes I'll photograph the actual spaces, and see how well I did. Or didn't!Michelle Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09612026771635370540noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292287499918562005.post-88203804616201979002011-05-04T19:54:00.000-06:002011-05-04T19:54:10.602-06:00lightingI have unrealistic ideas about lighting. Like for 1: I think it should be free (or practically). I cannot stomach the idea of paying $1500 for a light fixture, no matter how beautiful and perfect it is. Honestly, even $300 makes my tummy quiver. I look at that money and see a summer's worth of swimming lessons, or a week of summer camp for my kids. But I guess that's just the reality of being a mama!<br />
<br />
In our new home, several rooms will come with lighting (recessed lights in the kitchen, living room and basement), and quite a few builder-grade, oil rubbed bronze fixtures for the hallways, kids rooms, laundry, dining room, bathrooms, and entry way. I will probably want to change most of these out over time. Some sooner (kids rooms) and some over time (dining room, bathrooms). For most of these I'm just waiting to see exactly what they put in the house, and see how it looks before I spend more to change 'er up.<br />
<br />
But there are a few spaces where there won't be a light fixture (only a ceiling rough-in) and we will have to put a light in in order to SEE! These 3 immediate places are the master bedroom, which will get a ceiling fan, and John's office/study/library, which will get a hanging fixture, and the kitchen island, which will get a hanging lantern.<br />
<br />
I'm most excited about the lantern, so let's start there. I'll cover the other choices later.<br />

Here are my kitchen inspiration photos. At least the ones with lanterns.<br />

I'd love to keep the budget less than $500 (realistically) Truthfully, I'd be ecstatic to see something closer to $100.. Although, this is the fixture I'd be willing to spend the most on in the whole house. <div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBvIDWUQ53mFKo1VFvyAPa0vCZGxkCM5TKjAnA2IZk8_gDx6Yq7ecVTqPYXIhfNUn4ck8tBYVGGGAJZ8Iaw6cZrfu8F5S7npapTLl77kgg7nzMxg5Dtroh13td3QIvq0fOfpCjlwGWqTs/s1600/New+Haven+1st+floor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBvIDWUQ53mFKo1VFvyAPa0vCZGxkCM5TKjAnA2IZk8_gDx6Yq7ecVTqPYXIhfNUn4ck8tBYVGGGAJZ8Iaw6cZrfu8F5S7npapTLl77kgg7nzMxg5Dtroh13td3QIvq0fOfpCjlwGWqTs/s320/New+Haven+1st+floor.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>We didn't make too many interior changes to the actual shape and size of the house. But we did add a wall between the living and dining room. The "living" room will actually become a study, office, or library. Probably study at first, and when we add some built-in shelves, I'll start calling it the library! And we extended the staircase wall to incorporate some double doors, so the study can be closed off from the rest of the house.<br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji2volOUkYXV668wRbr2IWZYAJX1NU5mAm9_knNdryAkux4t80PrmRN656bupvEDtZp1c7LhAGg8LqNFNd-QlJd0L6wlkwBInsT5TmX_ElD6PrLvLVLlLV-GuVfUXJq-YtM0t6ABSzRyI/s1600/New+Haven+2nd+floor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji2volOUkYXV668wRbr2IWZYAJX1NU5mAm9_knNdryAkux4t80PrmRN656bupvEDtZp1c7LhAGg8LqNFNd-QlJd0L6wlkwBInsT5TmX_ElD6PrLvLVLlLV-GuVfUXJq-YtM0t6ABSzRyI/s320/New+Haven+2nd+floor.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Upstairs, we left everything alone. Check out the size of that master closet! We won't have the (optional 3rd bath) so the closet will really be that big. I have plans. I'll share them later.<br />

Construction should start in April. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwFHNJzc4cp4tpcfjiAVA72IOL-TGxIjrnY128QTZXasEXhdF2auPSmwQtT2BJDObkrqixk3csvXyI68IVCy2wkNEGr3ZZfAGng_OjdIlewjYsbohclv5vN_1M4cWbsyWKlSGpNhb7LwU/s1600/IMG_2515.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwFHNJzc4cp4tpcfjiAVA72IOL-TGxIjrnY128QTZXasEXhdF2auPSmwQtT2BJDObkrqixk3csvXyI68IVCy2wkNEGr3ZZfAGng_OjdIlewjYsbohclv5vN_1M4cWbsyWKlSGpNhb7LwU/s320/IMG_2515.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Anyway, it's kind of been the inspiration for our master bedroom for the past 6 years or more. I mean, it's not the kind of chair you just stick in any room and hope it fits!</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">But now, the light blue decor is being moved to the guest room, in order to have a more glamorous master bedroom. {I posted some ideas <a href="http://harrodhome.blogspot.com/2011/01/master-bedroom_23.html">here</a>.}</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">And the blue chair might not make the move. Although the new guest room hasn't even begun construction, I can tell that it might just be too small for a chair in the corner.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"> So here is my idea for keeping the blue chair in the master bedroom....a slipcover.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgywJRuy4xN1o2NwGGytqHHtEumk5nrYONFVXSVnnFpTvQ8rMBgQ5hxYBaYj1DdcQaz2nsvFLuiig0oXYRnJLTu0G_YlvbFWx28789MnkNBmwMV4FFgKHPrxRVRGmD27dguTgUDWrGcbAY/s1600/chair+pleat+slipcover4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgywJRuy4xN1o2NwGGytqHHtEumk5nrYONFVXSVnnFpTvQ8rMBgQ5hxYBaYj1DdcQaz2nsvFLuiig0oXYRnJLTu0G_YlvbFWx28789MnkNBmwMV4FFgKHPrxRVRGmD27dguTgUDWrGcbAY/s320/chair+pleat+slipcover4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix_SyCtduENcqgwYdkU20ECBu0lEuVYOySAkB_Zy_8PWZvCz7nAT8sqHVE9b2t175DwapA_RfwPZHjK-ASsZ2fDcYhh51pD_PpMYLzOzpU4tKSeIsSNOz5TpsCLFpzuWNduX9PtUuCdl0/s1600/chair+pleat+slipcover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix_SyCtduENcqgwYdkU20ECBu0lEuVYOySAkB_Zy_8PWZvCz7nAT8sqHVE9b2t175DwapA_RfwPZHjK-ASsZ2fDcYhh51pD_PpMYLzOzpU4tKSeIsSNOz5TpsCLFpzuWNduX9PtUuCdl0/s320/chair+pleat+slipcover.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidBPtL6mwkX8zeyaCUP02eQMF2bzepInRCnxz7HSphA-kTdShLJrx7W7RPt2QhDQ3rsd41LTZrT9NGheDtIg5OVcg7cB-XNZ7wsPQu1LlTja76oB67lAjvok0-cPH-5pAbazGhhtbUL0A/s1600/chair+pleat+slipcover2.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidBPtL6mwkX8zeyaCUP02eQMF2bzepInRCnxz7HSphA-kTdShLJrx7W7RPt2QhDQ3rsd41LTZrT9NGheDtIg5OVcg7cB-XNZ7wsPQu1LlTja76oB67lAjvok0-cPH-5pAbazGhhtbUL0A/s1600/chair+pleat+slipcover2.bmp" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3S5SZJP99q-3fkdiVS0hPGS7NNx7K-X3wLam_c93KidY07P6V1AfbBYtrVN0Zb7tYw3JmD9Hkg9VRa3bzgKMnFq1iIpfw2jWMayM2fnp-eW1NuI4n46LyNJQmnDW64jG8a5cJ-NTh7Wo/s1600/chair+pleat+slipcover3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3S5SZJP99q-3fkdiVS0hPGS7NNx7K-X3wLam_c93KidY07P6V1AfbBYtrVN0Zb7tYw3JmD9Hkg9VRa3bzgKMnFq1iIpfw2jWMayM2fnp-eW1NuI4n46LyNJQmnDW64jG8a5cJ-NTh7Wo/s320/chair+pleat+slipcover3.jpg" width="303" /></a></div> Not typically my style, but I think it might work.<br />

<br />
For. Sale.<br />
<br />
{I hope it doesn't last long.}<br />
<br />
Because, it's HARD to keep a house in sellable shape all the time. Especially with a 4 and 5 year old under foot. So I'm all for quick tips that will help speed things up when I have to get the house clean for a showing, and overall tips that will make a house attractive to a buyer.<br />
<br />
You know, learn something new that I don't already know from HGTV.<br />
<br />
A quick search on the internet turned up these gems. They are <em>perfect </em>advice. <br />
<ul><li>Say to yourself, <em>"This is not my home; it is a house -- a product to be sold much like a box of cereal on the grocery store shelf. </em><span style="color: #cc0000;">(If only it was that easy, and that cheap)</span></li>
<li>Clean out any musty smelling areas. <span style="color: #cc0000;">(Does this count spray painting furniture in the basement as a no-no? My husband does. Good thing he's out of town)</span></li>
<li><span style="color: black;">Say goodbye to every room. </span><span style="color: #cc0000;">(oh my)</span></li>
<li>Don't look backwards -- look toward the future. <span style="color: #cc0000;">(or you might just see that you overlooked cleaning that corner!)</span></li>
<li>Remove all books from bookcases. <span style="color: #cc0000;">(I just don't understand. Then why did I spend so much time styling those bookcases?)</span></li>
<li>Alphabetize spice jars.</li>
<li>Bathroom towels look great fastened with ribbon and bows. <span style="color: #cc0000;">(Ahhh, yes)</span></li>
<li>Go outside and open your front door. Stand there. Do you want to go inside? <span style="color: #cc0000;">(Yes. I live in Colorado. It's COLD outside.)</span></li>
<li>Plant yellow flowers or group flower pots together. Yellow evokes a buying emotion. <span style="color: #cc0000;">(I had no idea. Who knew yellow flowers would sell my home!)</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #cc0000;"><span style="color: black;">If you want to take window coverings, built-in appliances or fixtures with you, remove them now. <span style="color: #cc0000;">(Like my Restoration Hardware silk blinds in the living/dining room)</span> If a buyer never sees it, she won't want it. Once you tell a buyer she can't have an item, she will covet it, and it could blow your deal. Pack those items and replace them, if necessary.</span> <span style="color: #cc0000;">(I am starting to agree. I think my "curtains up but coming with me" may have blown a deal already!)</span></span></li>
</ul><span style="color: #cc0000;"><span style="color: black;">Check back tomorrow and my house will be SOLD!</span></span><br />
<br />
UPDATED: No joke. We really got an offer the day after I posted this. And I did have to fight for my RH silk curtains, but it was worth it!Michelle Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09612026771635370540noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292287499918562005.post-78305524340517275222011-02-06T21:57:00.000-07:002011-02-06T21:57:48.764-07:00We're moving!We're moving...and it's OK!<br />
<br />
(most people ask, so they know how to react. We're excited)<br />
<br />
We've been on a quick trip to Pennsylvania, and have decided to build a house! Lots to decide and get ready before the move, but here's what's pretty much finalized right now...<br />
<br />
The house will be this floor plan, and look lots like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgladU-md8O-rxG7qUuEqOIWgiOswbdtMLDVI_fcM-0i57URDN2YwmwXhH9n0EmcEYBqmV3Kc8UPip7kGrLvhcW5uXFNr-LkA11U8kcqejRs74XFDf6_QlHZmAlmDe8xOHi1ulQphrkVsI/s1600/new+haven.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="222" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgladU-md8O-rxG7qUuEqOIWgiOswbdtMLDVI_fcM-0i57URDN2YwmwXhH9n0EmcEYBqmV3Kc8UPip7kGrLvhcW5uXFNr-LkA11U8kcqejRs74XFDf6_QlHZmAlmDe8xOHi1ulQphrkVsI/s320/new+haven.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">And we'll be putting said house on lot 321.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">(at the bottom of the circle. We like the lot because it has open space beside and across the street. It also back to a wooded area. It gives John a little more privacy, but still a neighborhood for the kiddos. It has a feminine shape with the masculine nailhead trim. At $699 for a California King, the price is certainly better than most beds. It's a almost perfect match for the more expensive Crate and Barrel <a href="http://www.crateandbarrel.com/furniture/beds/colette-queen-bed/s369292">Colette</a> bed ($1899+). And I'm always up for saving a little dough with a knock off!<br />

One family has just moved to Denver from India, and so it was nice to give them the typical, American Thanksgiving experience! The other family is from Mexico, and although they have lived in the States for a while, it was nice to have their perspective on Thanksgiving as well. We enjoyed Indian Samosas to start, turkey and all the American sides, and Mexican flan for dessert!<br />
<br />
Here is my table, all set! (minus the kids' Gobble Gobble paper plates that I added later)<br />

<br />
Can you say "procrastination"? I'm an expert.<br />
<br />
With the kids down for nap, I gathered the materials I had purchased earlier in the morning:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzZmMhL5nwUQuT47X3YOw0l1eev3X_IRpxjW6VYiFfGLO48BhcDQz5IjwVVROcJvjEIvk3bDRL4LOeYhUnEc4DOt9a7Z5mbW2ivrdPOVhW9bulCiOhhqYtqRrwYrySA_aPHLPouUtNWPs/s1600/IMG_2289.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" ox="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzZmMhL5nwUQuT47X3YOw0l1eev3X_IRpxjW6VYiFfGLO48BhcDQz5IjwVVROcJvjEIvk3bDRL4LOeYhUnEc4DOt9a7Z5mbW2ivrdPOVhW9bulCiOhhqYtqRrwYrySA_aPHLPouUtNWPs/s320/IMG_2289.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">-14" straw wreath form (half price of $3.47 at Hobby Lobby)</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">-200 natural coffee filters (99 cents on sale at Target)</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">-hot glue gun</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">-glue sticks (LOTS)</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">-scissors (didn't end up using)</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">-ribbon for hanging</div><br />
I found A LOT of tutorials around the web for coffee filter wreaths. And I picked and chose from the several I read to make up my own version.<br />
<br />
I started with a straw wreath form, but I left it wrapped in the plastic cover. I had read about this on a tutorial from <a href="http://www.thenester.com/2010/11/making-a-coffee-filter-wreath-and-tree-and-things-of-that-nature.html">The Nester</a>. The plastic wrap provided a nice even surface to attach the coffee filters.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfY3WtmJ8ZYXqQIkH5oB3TEsvZPzM3RIrzZ8Q-HR4mPq19XCowW1_hgYGCJh7hO7NhRRyP1O9JwL5owvkqAEkO6ko0X_Ua8BfrUUyubi0Qft47Velrtp_ZYfFBQbKyFwqD3StW7cEWCHY/s1600/IMG_2292.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" ox="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfY3WtmJ8ZYXqQIkH5oB3TEsvZPzM3RIrzZ8Q-HR4mPq19XCowW1_hgYGCJh7hO7NhRRyP1O9JwL5owvkqAEkO6ko0X_Ua8BfrUUyubi0Qft47Velrtp_ZYfFBQbKyFwqD3StW7cEWCHY/s320/IMG_2292.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> Then I covered the entire wreath with a solid layer of coffee filters. I picked up this tip from <a href="http://jonesdesigncompany.com/create/coffee-filter-foof-tutorial/">Jones Design Company</a>. I was worried that if the coffee filters didn't completely cover, I didn't want the straw/plastic to show through.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY1jB9WmW5Ll2KWCil0lbtB7sRtk2b_TUCFNmWueEq61NjVEf1Og12deJ0rpAnTLZnrZvB6SN_ClGzDEwW7jEwAROV1QtS-zF4rVSu9vrXj9SlIcXpDOKJTfosRjwY3RJfXjnDJoY0mLs/s1600/IMG_2293.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" ox="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY1jB9WmW5Ll2KWCil0lbtB7sRtk2b_TUCFNmWueEq61NjVEf1Og12deJ0rpAnTLZnrZvB6SN_ClGzDEwW7jEwAROV1QtS-zF4rVSu9vrXj9SlIcXpDOKJTfosRjwY3RJfXjnDJoY0mLs/s320/IMG_2293.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> Then I started attaching the filters. I don't have photos of this part, but I folded the filter in half, then in half again, then in half again (is that eighths?). At first I was cutting the triangular end of the filter off to create a flat surface, and then attaching with hot glue. (see it <a href="http://jonesdesigncompany.com/create/coffee-filter-foof-tutorial/">here</a>)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSz817kMqW3JvHeoCmVJ6fkKDX2pYltrIITT8MxVOSl-HFv9Tifn5K4veYlhtSq3-Uu7-sxxwgYr6EMtBkKqlIVILVxWLMLiaADe_obuFkH7Ywn9x0Twsy931kngpKpJf2Mvwb0NYdlrc/s1600/IMG_2294.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" ox="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSz817kMqW3JvHeoCmVJ6fkKDX2pYltrIITT8MxVOSl-HFv9Tifn5K4veYlhtSq3-Uu7-sxxwgYr6EMtBkKqlIVILVxWLMLiaADe_obuFkH7Ywn9x0Twsy931kngpKpJf2Mvwb0NYdlrc/s320/IMG_2294.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is about as far as I made it with that method. It was just too hard to keep the filter folded up, standing up, and attached. So I stopped cutting, and just folded that little end piece over, and using that to glue the filter to the wreath.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div> Here you can see my little flaps glue down. Despite having that little flap to adhere...I still burned my fingers on almost ALL 200 filters. Ouch.<br />

</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">So, I'm now drawing inspiration for a grand entry area in our new house. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">{We all know this house does not yet exist, right}</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Our house in Colorado does not really have an entry to speak of. Oh, it has a front door, and a little patch of wood flooring before you're thrust into the formal living area. But in my dream house, there would be a nice space dedicated to entering! </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">There would be, or course, a staircase. Preferably one with a modern, metal railing.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0jfExdjq7EGz-nuRhMm0MRxOyQnM86CRfSkBjY-UCi_Zj11uN1-LaqtJCHet4CJYBP78v1AguecxlVi_XxoO8DI2A-9QBto0eLnLpZcxjaB6u-posyfQL_f5lnRWlR1QzxTw7GFtVGzA/s1600/entry2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0jfExdjq7EGz-nuRhMm0MRxOyQnM86CRfSkBjY-UCi_Zj11uN1-LaqtJCHet4CJYBP78v1AguecxlVi_XxoO8DI2A-9QBto0eLnLpZcxjaB6u-posyfQL_f5lnRWlR1QzxTw7GFtVGzA/s320/entry2.jpg" width="256" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Also, a table. <br />
Whew...glad we got that out of the way!<br />
<br />
I've been working (in my mind) on some ideas for Caroline's room re-design, and I've gotten carried away with Joel Dewberry's fabric Dogwood Bloom in pink, maple and grass.<br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Here's my (amateur) version of a design board as a jumping off place.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">But do you think a 5 year old would like it?</div>Michelle Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09612026771635370540noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292287499918562005.post-18607453707703568142010-10-30T21:37:00.000-06:002010-10-30T21:37:50.888-06:00Happy Birthday to my Mother in Law!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1tECII6FDiuv3d5AwCqVfyBgsAGQxYdLjWphKNQb0iTc7_nsk0gaZdBPiZLnL7d_AP_72ZHBNIcrCCvNCA7fH2txFDJiRp0NlrtEdX6AvLjW7BoBZQkW8VqwzFiuUdGqaAAFpsA3Q-ag/s1600/flower.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1tECII6FDiuv3d5AwCqVfyBgsAGQxYdLjWphKNQb0iTc7_nsk0gaZdBPiZLnL7d_AP_72ZHBNIcrCCvNCA7fH2txFDJiRp0NlrtEdX6AvLjW7BoBZQkW8VqwzFiuUdGqaAAFpsA3Q-ag/s320/flower.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />

The glasses were a little less uniform. I hope she'll be pleased. I also added my newest craft craze...satin flower pins, as the "wrapping" for the pitcher. I've been making these like crazy. Here are a couple that I whipped up to wear to a Fall Harvest Festival on Friday:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje-hCHsKoiW8EnI-i5FPuC_Nuyy0gattkeH7iY6UZRiXKBCSZVmTIN1FOUczoQ7aal1En8xAVaZccCHTfyG4nyAGV9IihReV2-B97q2wu-kdEkUOd2Huoj432z5rAsRffkv1E6fcjtor4/s1600/flowers.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje-hCHsKoiW8EnI-i5FPuC_Nuyy0gattkeH7iY6UZRiXKBCSZVmTIN1FOUczoQ7aal1En8xAVaZccCHTfyG4nyAGV9IihReV2-B97q2wu-kdEkUOd2Huoj432z5rAsRffkv1E6fcjtor4/s320/flowers.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>You can find the flower tutorial <a href="http://jonesdesigncompany.com/create/5-days-of-favorite-projects-day-1/">here</a>.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYMOZ9jcUIRnPjgJlwDTMmwdsmeAD-PoQgKpAbNMzLUM68ttC_UaT6DMRw04wQcLD6QivuSkz1Jmcpo_IP8oPzNMSuOoOuOx_cdIA-2ZuXEY4OXH9VxmWe5Tk2wuRQeBrYapFmBuXiXmXx/s320/IMG_4971.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYMOZ9jcUIRnPjgJlwDTMmwdsmeAD-PoQgKpAbNMzLUM68ttC_UaT6DMRw04wQcLD6QivuSkz1Jmcpo_IP8oPzNMSuOoOuOx_cdIA-2ZuXEY4OXH9VxmWe5Tk2wuRQeBrYapFmBuXiXmXx/s320/IMG_4971.JPG" /></a></div>So I decided to give it a try and make a gift for my MIL...oh, for last Mother's Day. I didn't get to it as quickly as I would have liked, and on the first go-round, I messed up the pitcher a little. Good thing she and I share the same last initial, because I have a new pitcher with a slightly messed up "H" etched on it!<br />
<br />
So the gift has been put off 6 months, and now her birthday is around the corner, and I'm determined to get to it again.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwKFzZFTCdas8eNXxQgmIIEkM-nJAPT6OP9_9xmNiAr2U2z2VsMFmvsUOIgd2N4lBHitjp0s-15_RGV_CjW5j3EAiS2pOH1pgFTTcrN21moakYc-wPjjPku5yklB3ieK35hc5VVZmD_sSR/s320/IMG_2828.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwKFzZFTCdas8eNXxQgmIIEkM-nJAPT6OP9_9xmNiAr2U2z2VsMFmvsUOIgd2N4lBHitjp0s-15_RGV_CjW5j3EAiS2pOH1pgFTTcrN21moakYc-wPjjPku5yklB3ieK35hc5VVZmD_sSR/s320/IMG_2828.JPG" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">So, I'm going to give my hand at a pitcher (straight sides this time!) and 4 drinking glasses. I can't decide if I want to etch all the pieces with the same "H", or if I want to use a different font for each glass. My thought was, that if each glass was different, then you would never get confused as to which glass was yours! I narrowed it down to 6 choices.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqiAQswqKnqlCt7VbS0FseqHyhqGivmyjN8k2W3vn1-P8wPFGFCG1vmZRg8OIrOwNxVm1jPzn7WRSqR7628JTCW0p8n59DJ1gClMEeShJMKxxyBKvJOsZqPoXqWw46UXeLTYhcv5pwAuc/s1600/Hs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqiAQswqKnqlCt7VbS0FseqHyhqGivmyjN8k2W3vn1-P8wPFGFCG1vmZRg8OIrOwNxVm1jPzn7WRSqR7628JTCW0p8n59DJ1gClMEeShJMKxxyBKvJOsZqPoXqWw46UXeLTYhcv5pwAuc/s320/Hs.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Here's what you (and I) need to remember: </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">-etching cream is EXPENSIVE, but also REUSABLE. Be prepared to do LOTS of projects.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">-pick a glass item with straight sides. Cylindrical is ok...but not rounded or bulbous.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">-be prepared for a little imperfection!</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">-check <a href="http://createstudio.blogspot.com/">Create Studio</a> for all her other tips as posts about <a href="http://createstudio.blogspot.com/search?q=glass+etching">etching</a>.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I'll post some pictures when I'm finished.</div>Michelle Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09612026771635370540noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292287499918562005.post-86502651384587551582010-10-27T14:24:00.000-06:002010-10-27T14:51:25.351-06:00fit for a king<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Right now, my husband and I share a queen size bed. It's SO comfy and a beautiful sleigh bed, but I'm ready for an upgrade! Whenever we stay in hotels that have a king size bed, that extra space is very nice!</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">So, I think we may spring for a king size bed of our own (for a new house). It may end up being a late anniversary present, although I don't think the gift for 8 years of marriage is "beds"!</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">{ok...I checked. The anniversary gift for 8 years is bronze. Or pottery, appliances, or linen}</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">So, here are just some design ideas to get me started.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">First up: a bronze bed! I probably wouldn't buy it, but since it's the 8 year gift and all...</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

What if I throw in a little color for accents? Well, this is the direction I'm heading for our new home. Here are a few of my inspiration photos. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAdWLst1dvtihiQihtdDwxFF5g5fnTjtN1S8E9bhqFup6N8Y2EKLUHBDOxLbAJc2qwrTvCdjybdqBPPLE0D22z2C67HAbPGrJatZ614unITBsR_04gT1EyFXS3B5CZ_tR4UXg7aWREyAg/s1600/family+room.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAdWLst1dvtihiQihtdDwxFF5g5fnTjtN1S8E9bhqFup6N8Y2EKLUHBDOxLbAJc2qwrTvCdjybdqBPPLE0D22z2C67HAbPGrJatZ614unITBsR_04gT1EyFXS3B5CZ_tR4UXg7aWREyAg/s320/family+room.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
